WECT.com - Castle Hayne committee denies support of Titan Cement Plant

This just in from WECT TV news:

CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WECT) - The Carolinas Cement Company’s controversial Titan Cement project looks to be gaining ground.

The company’s public relations group sent out a news release saying they had the support of a local advisory group, The Castle Hayne Steering Committee, but the chairman of that committee says that’s not the case.

Chairman Tom Radewicz said this all stems from a report he wrote after visiting another Titan America cement plant in Roanoke, Virginia.

He never meant for the report to become public, and now he says it’s a big misunderstanding.

Radewicz says a representative from Titan asked to see a copy of the report. So, Radewicz provided one, never thinking the information would be sent to the media.

“The Castle Hayne Steering Committee, which is made up of about 18 members…we don’t plan on taking a position. We’re just gathering information for the community,” said Radewicz .

He also said, contrary to what’s stated in the news release, the steering committee never voted on whether to support Titan’s project.
