Stop Titan needs you!
Come join Friends of the Lower Cape Fear, Cape Fear RiverWatch, the North Carolina Coastal Federation, Pender Watch, Cape Fear CAN, and our local Sierra Club Chapter, on Monday, October 27th, from 4 to 7 pm, for a peaceful protest against Titan Cement!
The time has come to show all the candidates running for elected office that:
- We do not want to be the home of the 4th largest cement plant in the nation!
- We do not want New Hanover county to have the 4th highest mercury emissions in the state!
- We do not want to have the 5th highest mercury source in the Tarheel State.
- We will not let them destroy 600 acres of “unmitigable” wetlands that provide important habitat and flood protection to our region!
- We will not expose 5,000 children who will attend school within 5 miles of the proposed site to Titan’s dangerous pollution!
- We will not let them pump smog- and ozone-causing pollution into our sweet sea air!
- We won’t let Titan’s mine threaten our drinking water aquifers with benzene or other cancer causing agents!
The more of us show up, the more we let Titan America and our politicians know that just because they throw their money around town this is still our community and we still have a voice! Bring your children, your grandparents, your neighbors. Make your own sign (no larger than 2 x 2) and tell Titan and the officials who represent us that we deserve better.
Date: October 27th, Monday
Time: 4-7 pm
Place: The sidewalk in front of the Northeast Branch of the New Hanover County Public Library on Military Cutoff. This is scheduled to coincide with Titan’s workshop, which will be inside the library from 4-8 pm. Be Loud, Be Proud, (and of course be polite)!
Thank you for speaking out for your community. Thank you for staying involved.
Please contact contactus@stoptitan.org if you have questions.
SEE YOU THERE!

Yesterday’s peaceful protest was spectacular! I took a count early on (around 430-5) and we had at that time 108 people. I know many others arrived later, so I would estimate it was closer to 150 in the end. I was greatly impressed by the citizens from all walks of life that came out in the cold to get our message across. There was a lot of energy although everyone was very polite and respectful during the protest (other than the Titan representatives that tried to shoo people from the PUBLIC Library). I am proud to be part of such a dynamic community and to be working with everyone from the StopTitan coalition. You are such amazing people!
